Knights
of Columbus
Saint Peter Church, Council #10351
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What
exactly is the Knights of Columbus?
The Knights
of Columbus is a Catholic service organization dedicated
to the four principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity,
and Patriotism. Known as "The Strong Right Arm of
the Church," the Knights provide volunteer service
to the local community and beyond, insurance for members,
and a strong and lasting sense of brotherhood and friendship.
The Order was founded by Father Michael J. McGivney in
1882. Membership is open to all Catholic Men in
good standing. The main website for the Knights
of Columbus is located here.
OK,
that's all well and good, but what do the Knights actually do?
They
do a variety of things, from running parish picnics to
spending time with the infirm and poor to sponsoring
basketball free-throws to raising money for a host of
good causes. See our Council
History page for a look at what we've accomplished
over the past ten years.
How
much time is involved?
While this depends on what
activities and positions you participate in, it really
isn't much of a time commitment at all. There is one
business meeting per month, lasting 1-2 hours in the
evening. Other than that, you determine how much time
and energy you want to devote to the organization.
Why
should I join?
It's often said that one's duties
in this world should be, in order of priority, to God,
to your family, to your work, and to your self. The Knights
are a dynamic and unique way to give back some of your
time and talents to God, basically to thank Him for all
of the gifts and blessings he has bestowed upon you.
If you think of it like that, it's not a big deal after
all. And you just might have some fun in the process!
