Little Rock Scripture Study: “The Gospel of Matthew”
(Fall or Winter/Spring; Mornings or Evenings; 10 sessions)

Deepen your understanding and love of Jesus through learning about the Gospel of Saint Matthew.  The study of this Gospel will reacquaint you with the Master Teacher, Jesus.    Sections of the Gospel of Matthew were often used to instruct Christians in the early centuries of the Church.  Program includes DVD presentation and small group discussion.

Feast of Faith

Bereavement: Processing the Loss of a Loved One
(Fall and/or Spring; 7 sessions)

This program uses a support group atmosphere to help individuals learn to process the grief that comes through losing a loved one.  Whether the loss is recent or in the past, knowledge of how we grieve and what we can do to continue to cherish our loved ones and live fully in the present is important.

I Believe: The Heart of Catholic Faith
(Fall; Mornings or Evenings; 4 sessions)

An overwhelming majority of Americans say that they believe in God.  But what does it mean to believe?  This four part series focuses on the Creed we pray every Sunday at Mass.  It tells us what God has done to save us and, more importantly, tells us who God is.  Come and explore the most fundamental and central truths of our faith contained within these words we profess.  Each session will include a DVD presentation followed by input and sharing.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and Teens (RCIA)
(Begins Sunday, September 26)

4The RCIA is the process whereby adults and high school age teens become full, active, participating members of the Catholic Church.  Weekly Sunday gatherings are designed to help individuals learn about Catholic teaching and grow in a deeper relationship with God.  In addition, candidates for sacraments celebrate special “rites” throughout the year leading to reception of the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.  RCIA team members lead prayer and discussion throughout the year.  This program is for those who have never received Catholic sacraments and for those who have been baptized Catholic but who have not completed their Sacraments of Initiation.

Parent Sacramental Meetings (Fall)
First Penance, First Eucharist, Confirmation

These presentations are designed to support parents who have children receiving sacraments during the year.   There is opportunity to hear discussion on Church teaching and suggestions on how to nurture your child’s faith development.  Practical information regarding the child’s parish preparation for the sacrament will also be discussed.  All parents having children receive sacraments this year are asked to attend one of the sessions.

Liturgical Renewal

6Beginning in Advent of 2011 there will be some changes in the words prayed and proclaimed during the celebration of the Mass.  These sessions will offer an opportunity to deepen your understanding of these changes.  In addition, we will discover how this renewed celebration will deepen our spirituality and enhance the meaning of our Eucharistic celebration and prayer of the Mass.

Lenten Small Faith Sharing Groups: Disciples in Mission

7Join a faith sharing group to discuss the Sunday scriptures as they unfold during this special season of Lent.  Groups meet weekly in homes of parishioners.  Witness the strength and deepening of faith which comes from sharing scripture with others in our parish community.  See parish bulletin for details.

Book Discussion (Lent - 5 Sessions):
“Life of the Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World”

Come and join with others in some spiritual reading during Lent.  This book, by renowned author Henri J. M. Nouwen, will be the focus of our book discussion this year.  At the request of a young friend of his, Nouwen writes to fulfill this request… “Speak to us about the deepest yearning of our hearts, about our many wishes, and about hope… Speak to us about a vision larger than our changing perspectives and about a voice deeper than the clamorings of our mass media.  Yes, speak to us about something or someone greater than ourselves.  Speak to us about… God.”

“The Mass ~ Prayer, Revisions, and Celebration!”

Deepen your understanding of the Mass as the central prayer of our parish community.  Learn and prepare for the revisions coming in our prayer of the Mass along with others involved in our Parish Liturgical Ministries.  Prayer, input, and sharing will all be part of this special gathering.  Be renewed and energized in your ministry of service to our parish!  Lunch is included.

Take a visual and spiritual journey to the “warm” Holy Land.  This four-part series will identify key places and landscapes of both the Old and New Testament while speaking their own inspiring message for your spiritual life.  Each session will include prayer, a DVD presentation, input, and discussion.  Take this far away journey while still rooted in the country!

Pre-Jordan: Preparing for My Child’s Baptism
(Every Month: Pre-registration required)

10Parents requesting the Sacrament of Baptism for the first time are invited to attend this gathering in order to more fully understand the depth and meaning of this Catholic Sacrament of Initiation.  Specially trained couples share their experiences of “raising their child in the Catholic faith.”  In addition, the Baptism ritual is discussed with emphasis on the meaning of prayers and symbols used in the celebration. Parish Mission and Forty Hours Devotion (March 2011)
“Living the Beatitudes… Heart of the Gospel ~ Gospel of the Heart”

This is a special graced moment for our parish family to come together around Eucharistic Adoration.  Our Parish Mission and Forty Hours Devotion will begin with the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Sunday after the 12:00 PM Mass and continue throughout the afternoon in our Chapel.  The Blessed Sacrament will again be exposed on Monday and Tuesday all day following the 8:30 AM Mass.  Evening Prayer and Benediction will be celebrated on Monday and Tuesday evening.  The focus of our time together will be living the Beatitudes as the heart of the Gospel and the Gospel of the heart!

Presenters

  1. Rev. Michael Fitzpatrick is Pastor of St. Peter Church.  He received a M.Div. in theological studies from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary and a M.S. in Educational Leadership from St. Joseph University.  Father has taught in high school and college as well as having directed numerous group retreats for both adults and teens.
  1. Dr. Patricia Bartle  is the retired director, Office of Worship for the Diocese of Patterson, NJ.  In her position as director, she was part of the U.S. Bishop’s Committee for the revisions of the Roman Missal.  Dr. Bartle is an adjunct professor, department of Theology for LaSalle University and a frequent presenter at numerous workshops and conferences throughout the country.
  1. Deacon Thomas Concitis was assigned to St. Peter Parish after completing theological and pastoral studies at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary and was ordained to the permanent deaconate in 2007.  He also holds a B.S. from San Diego State University and works full time as a manager of sales tax research.  He is involved in the Pre-Jordan preparations for baptism and is actively involved in several parish organizations.
  1. Sister Christine Konopelski, SSJ is the Coordinator of Faith Formation for St. Peter Church.  She received a MA in Education from Lehigh University and a M.A. in Pastoral Ministry and Theology from LaSalle University.  She has taught in elementary and high school as well as having presented numerous retreats, workshops and spiritual programs to adults and teens.
  1. Shavaun McGinty is an educational counselor and mother of three.  She received a B.A from the University of Richmond and a M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Immaculata University.  She has worked in the area of counseling for six years and has done work with families experiencing the death of a loved one.
  1. Rev. Michael Murray, OSFS is the Director of De Sales Spirituality Center in Wilmington, Delaware.  He received a M.Div. from De Sales School of Theology and a M.A. in Educational Leadership from George Washington University.  He has given numerous retreats and parish missions to groups throughout the country. 
  1. Patrice Peterson is St. Peter Parish Director of Religious Education for 17 years.  She has a B.A. from St. Louis University and has done extensive work on Archdiocesan Committees in Religious Education.  In addition, she has coordinated youth ministry and education through the CLE program.
